Grazer of the Week 13th September: Wren the Welsh Black

This saltmarsh, part of the nature reserve at WWT Llanelli, is part of a mosaic of lakes, scrapes, pools, streams and lagoons which blend into the coast of the Burry Inlet in South Wales.

Salt marshes are our featured habitat for this week. They are important and unique habitats, where the land meets the sea. The conditions encourage only salt-tolerant species that can withstand immersion.

They are important sites for wading birds and wildfowl, invertebrates and nursery sites for several species of fish.

The cattle are important here in order to manage the sward and provide the perfect feeding conditions for the thousands of wintering birds that the site supports.
