Inspired by Meadows – an online talk by Wildlife Artist Ann Thomas

As long as I can remember, I have enjoyed walking and drawing nature outdoors. My favourite haunts in my native Dolgellau area are the flower rich hay meadows which lie within walking distance of the town. I often sit for hours sketching flowers and visiting insects whilst at the same time having a quick look through binoculars in an attempt to identify passing birds and butterflies. My habit of sketching in the field have resulted in the opportunity to illustrate a flower book for a World Heritage Centre in the Vega Archipelago, Norway, sharing art tips with the islanders and a Bala exhibition of work linking the Great Hungarian Plain and Wales. The ‘zoom’ presentation gives me the opportunity to share with you the way in which hay meadow field sketches have resulted in watercolour paintings, linoleum prints and stitch projects. An Aberystwyth 1974 Zoology degree, a long time ago, gives me some understanding of habitats and I will share what I have learnt about some flowers. A printmaking course in Upper New York State, USA gave me more confidence in my artwork and an understanding of the way in which I could use my field drawings. To conclude, the presentation will provide the opportunity to chat, see examples of work including the Vega book and adventures I’ve enjoyed whilst sketching in the field. To receive the joining link, please contact rose@housemartinmedia.com
Ysbrydolwyd gan ddolau – sgwrs ar lein yng nghwmni yr artist bywyd gwyllt, Ann Thomas.Hyd yn oed fel plentyn, ‘rwy’n cofio bod wrth fy modd yn crwydro a manteisio ar bob cyfle i gofnodi byd natur gyda phapur a phensil yn y maes. Fy holl lefydd yw’r caeau gwair traddodiadol o fewn pellter cerdded i’m cartref yn Nolgellau. Yn aml byddaf yn eistedd am oriau yn creu brasluniau o flodau a phryfetach ac ar yr un pryd ceisio adnabod, drwy sbienddrych, adar a glöynod byw chwim a ddaw heibio.Mae’r arferiad o gofnodi yn y maes wedi ysgogi’r cyfle i ysgrifennu ac arlunio llyfr blodau i Ganolfan Treftadaeth ein Byd, Ynysoedd Vega, Norwy, rhannu gwybodaeth celf gain gyda’r ynyswyr a chysylltu Cymru â gwastadedd mawr Hwngari mewn arddangosfa yn y Bala.Mae’r cyflwyniad ‘zoom’ yn gyfle i mi rannu â chwi wybodaeth am greu peintiadau dyfrliw, printiau leino a gwaith pwytho wedi seilio ar fy mrasluniau. Graddiais o Brifysgol Aberystwyth mewn Swoleg yn 1974 ac felly mae gennyf beth wybodaeth am gynefin a phlanigion y gallaf rannu â chwi. Cefais fwy o hyder yn fy ngwaith celf drwy ddilyn cwrs argraffu dwy flynedd yn Nhalaith Efrog Newydd a deall ar yr un pryd sut i ddefnyddio fy mrasluniau maes.I gloi, bydd y cyflwyniad yn gyfle i sgwrsio, gweld enghreifftiau o’m gwaith celf, Llyfr Vega a’r anturiaethau i mi fwynhau tra’n arlunio yn y maes.To receive the joining link, please contact rose@housemartinmedia.com
