Managing Dogs in the Countryside
A national conference addressing the issues relating to dogs in the countryside.
A UK wide initiative to promote better behaviour and management of dogs around livestock. This was the first conference bringing together a working group to look at ways of reducing dog attacks on grazing animals. PONT has become part of the working group and will attend further events to research and plan methods of improving dog behaviour and the understanding of the problems dogs can cause.

Community Benefits
Improving the understanding of the general public of the danger and damage caused (often unexpectedly) to livestock by dogs will enable the general public to walk dogs responsibly in the countryside. This will improve the relationship between the dog walking public and landowners and reduce the number dogs destroyed for livestock worrying.
Economic Benefits
Animal injuries will be reduced, resulting in better welfare for livestock and reduction in loss of revenue though injury and death of livestock.
Natural Resource Benefits
Improving the understanding of the general public of the danger and damage caused (often unexpectedly) to livestock by dogs would be very helpful in giving graziers confidence that their stock will be safe on a public site. This will enable appropriate grazing management of wildlife land.
